VFD Group recently held its 2nd Quarterly bonding activity for management and staff. The event – a denim themed party at a secret location – was one full of eating, dancing and group activities. Bonds were renewed, friendships reemphasized, love shown and good cheer passed around.
Our quarterly bonding activities are held to enhance employee motivation, and build trust and friendship among our staff. Every quarter, a committee of staff is set up to organize such an event. This committee decides the nature and location of the event, and plans the entire event. This responsibility teaches the members of the committee valuable lessons in project management, budgeting, planning, event management and collaboration.
This way, team building already starts from the planning phase of these events. At the end of the year, one committee is voted as the best planning committee of the year. With this prize on the minds, our planning committees always put their best into the organization of the team bonding activities.
At the Q2 denim themed party, there was something for everyone. From table games such as snooker and table footie, to board games, video games and swimming games. Karaoke was set up for staff to test out their vocal strengths and stagecraft. There was also a section for paint balling; a good way to test competitiveness and target shooting.
Apart from the management and staff of VFD Group, we also had in attendance some ex members of our staff, some shareholders, and family members of staff & management. These bonds are also important to us and it is important that they are maintained and strengthened.
The party provided an opportunity to give a befitting send-off to Ayodeji Shittu, a now former member of the FX Operations Unit who left to further his education abroad. The general mood quickly turned nostalgic as Ayodeji’s team members and supervisors shared the dancefloor with him, and then gave speeches about him.
He also danced with the Group’s Managing Director, Nonso Okpala, who afterwards, gave a talk to appreciate him. Ayodeji is a hardworking young man whose presence will surely be missed.
Specially catering for the party was our very own Oluwatoyin Abel, staff of VFD Group. Toyin, who is a member of our Sales team is also a professional caterer in her free time and often caters to the lunch needs of several staff. She served a variety of mouthwatering dishes at the party and still found time to join us in the group activities.
Some would say the highlight of the day was the inter-departmental dancing competitions that were held.
Others would say it was the non-stop flow of food, drinks, desserts and finger foods.
A few people will say DJ Wale, who nearly brought down the roof with his incredible mixing skills, was the star of the day.
What everyone who was present on that day will agree on is that it was a day to remember.
A special thanks to Management, Human Resources and the Q2 Bonding Planning Committee as we look forward to the Q3 bonding activity.
